My new album, Rare Songs, my first in more than, 20 years,  is due out shortly. Watch this space and my music pages for more information on the album.

John is working on his first album in more than 20 years. Due out in September this year, the album will feature 15 songs, 14 written by John.

Bright Hill Literary Center in Treadwell, NY will present a John O’Connor album release concert on October 21. Watch this space for further details.

I will be be performing at the Octopus at 2205 College St. in Cedar Falls Iowa on November 8. Concert starts at 7:30.

Artistree in South Pomfret, VT will present a John O’Connor album release concert on November 17 at 7PM.

John will appear in concert at the People’s Voice Cafe on January 13 at 8PM in New York City. The Cafe is located at the Community Church of New York at 40 East 35th St.

POETRY NEWS

John’s poem, The Fall was featured as Rattle’s weekly “Poets Respond” page. You can hear him read the poem at http://www.rattle.com/the-fall-by-john-paul-oconnor/.

You can also read John’s work in the current issues of Hanging Loose and St. Ann’s Review, both fine Brooklyn based literary journals.

John has won the 2015 Violet Reed Haas Prize for Poetry with the entry of his poetry collection, Half the Truth. The prize includes a cash award of $1,000 and publication of his poetry collection by Snake Nation Press.

John has also been a semi-finalist in the 2013  Philip Levine Poetry Book Prize contest. Other honors include his shortlistings for the Patricia Bibby and Gerald Cable book awards. He was a semi-finalist in 2014 for Waywiser Press’s Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize.  His poem, Beans, which appeared in the 2010 winter issue of Rattle as a recipient of an Honorable Mention in their annual award contest, was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.  You can hear John read his poems, Beans, Breakfast and The Fall at the Rattle website, www.rattle.com.
